The Greatest Sunset of My Life
This was a year ago today while I stayed 6 days by myself on a deserted island in Tonga with two stray doggies. I miss my babies :(

Tirhani’s first day of school // SAME’s little miracle.
In October 2010 Tirhani was brought into SAME’s care. She was deformed and paralyzed - crawling on the ground. She was four years old but the size of an 18-month-old baby. She was incontinent, could not speak, and screamed anytime anybody came near her.
After just two months with SAME (eating in the kitchen, basic medical care, and above all being loved) she could stand up against a wall. By four months she was walking and talking. All of her problems were from malnutrition and neglect. Now she is just like any healthy toddler. All this due to love and care.
It’s easy to feel disconnected or hopeless about situations like these in the village, but I’m telling you from being here that these are real results and reason to get involved. There’s still hope for each new day.
Zuma is a dick.
South Africa prez Jacob Zuma - in case you don’t know:
“In December 2005, Zuma was charged with raping a 31-year old woman at his home in Forest Town, Gauteng. The alleged victim was from a prominent ANC family, the daughter of a deceased struggle comrade of Zuma, and also an AIDS activist who was known to be HIV positive. Zuma denied the charges… The trial also generated political controversy when Zuma, who at the time headed the National AIDS Council, admitted that he had not used a condom when having sex with the woman who now accuses him of rape, despite knowing that she was HIV-positive. He stated in court that he took a shower afterwards to ‘cut the risk of contracting HIV’. This statement was condemned by the judge, health experts, and AIDS activists.”
SA needs better leadership, especially when it comes to HIV education.

Sundowners is a SA term for drinks at sun down. The first time Shirls asked me what I wanted for sundowners I said: “Naw it’s cool, I’ve got a sweater.” The view from Mariepskop - the highest point of Blyde River Canyon - sucked.
